White Privilege Book Group
Please join us to discuss books about white privilege and issues of race. It will be a way, we hope, to help each other build the skills, courage, and stamina to pick away at the walls that go up between cultures and races. Next month we will discuss Citizen by Claudia Rankine.
“Claudia Rankine’s … book recounts mounting racial aggressions in ongoing encounters in twenty-first-century daily life and in the media. … Our addressability is tied to the state of our belonging, Rankine argues, as are our assumptions and expectations of citizenship. In essay, image, and poetry, Citizen is a powerful testament to the individual and collective effects of racism in our contemporary, often named “post-race” society.” (Amazon)
We will focus on the first half of the book for our time together.
