Climate Justice Working Group

Hark! We are calling all talents. At this gathering we will continue to seek out paths for implementing Climate Justice in our community. Please come even if you were not able to attend the first gathering.

To participate on-line, click here. Or open a Zoom app and enter the Meeting ID: 810 4646 9896 and Passcode: 017626. To attend by phone dial 646 558 8656 and enter the Meeting ID: 810 4646 9896. No passcode is required.

Who should attend? Anyone with a spark of interest. Come if you want to help with the climate crisis but do not know what to do. Come if you are excited about pragmatic, faith-based action. Come if you are excited about change, or even if in despair. Come if you only have one hour a month, or if you only have four hours a week. How can Friends respond to the climate destruction and how it impacts the Earth and her inhabitants?

During the 2020 New England Yearly Meeting (NEYM) Sessions several justice committees presented a minute entitled “Call to Urgent, Loving Action for the Earth and Her Inhabitants”. The minute asks the Creator to lead us to love, act justly, … walk humbly with You, and learn to live sustainably…” The forum on December 6, 2020 presented the minute and provided space for initial discussion of the minute. This begins wider discernment, leading to some actions by individuals and the Meeting. Recommendations will be presented at August 2021 NEYM Sessions.

We seek to act as Quakers out of Spirit, consistent with our Quaker testimonies, mindful of white privilege, and with a commitment to work out any differences which develop. If interested, please come on January 14th. Contact us at climatejustice@fmcquaker.org with questions or more information.
