Building the Capacity of Friends to Do The Work of Their Meetings
Join us for an informal, lively, and open conversation around ways we can encourage the vitality of our meetings by intentionally preparing and supporting a broad array of Friends for service in their meetings. What often manifests as a nominating crisis may point the way forward to new and more fruitful practices as Friends! We’ll begin by exploring the related issues and frame this process as part of the spiritual journey. We’ll lift up cutting edge responses by local meetings that show promise. Liz Yeats, Friends Meeting of Austin and former presiding clerk of South Central Yearly Meeting, and Diego Navarro, Santa Cruz Friends Meeting and former presiding clerk of Pacific Yearly Meeting will be in our circle to add richness from their vantage points. This gathering will be low on hand-wringing and lean toward new ways that we can be more intentional about naming gifts and providing opportunities for growing into gifts and skills long before the formal nominating process.
