The United Nations International Day of Peace is celebrated this year on the Boston Common (near the Park Street MBTA station) from 2:00–4:00pm on Sunday, September 23, with free music, song, story, dance, poetry, and presentations by local peacemakers. Face painting and activities for children. Concluded with an optional walk to the nearby Garden of Peace where local victims of violence are memorialized by engravings on stones. If the weather does not cooperate, the event will be moved indoors to the Church on the Hill (140 Bowdoin Street, Boston).

Several members of the FMC community participated in the planning and will be performing or speaking at the event. The celebration (our ninth annual) will be focused on the United Nations’ theme for this year – “The Right to Peace – The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70”. Similar to the 2013 World Council of Churches General Assembly in Busan, we expect to have program elements featuring Human Rights for the Earth, its peoples, the marketplace, and the community.
