White Privilege Book Group

The White Privilege Book Group will meet again on Tuesday October 20th (third Tuesdays) 5-6:30. After a year and a half of reading and sharing together, we are going to reflect on what we have read, how it has changed us, and where we are going. Many Friends have been delving into white privilege and anti-racism learning. There are so many resources beyond what our group has covered. We invite any of you to join in a conversation on the 20th.

Some questions to consider:
How has this reading and learning impacted my life at Friends Meeting at Cambridge?
How has it changed my interactions in my day-to-day life?
Are there events or relationships that I handled differently because of what I learned?
What do I need to take a next step? What would that step be?

What we have read:
January 2019 Friends Journal, “Building White Racial Stamina” by Elizabeth A. Oppenheimer
Waking Up White: and Finding Myself in the Story of Race by Debby Irving
Say the Wrong Thing by Quaker Dr. Amanda Kemp
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (and a powerful movie!)
White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo
My Grandmother’s Hands by Resmaa Menakem
So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo
The white flight of Derek Black by Eli Saslow, October 15, 2016
If You Walk on Eggshells: A White Woman Reflects on Race and Family by Wendy Sanford, with Mary Norman

Way Opens: A Spiritual Journey by Patricia Wild
