White Privilege Book Group
The next White Privilege Book Group will meet on Zoom Tuesday, July 21, 5:00-6:30 pm to discuss Way Opens: A Spiritual Journey by another FMC author, Patricia Wild. We’ll read through chapter 6. You can get a copy on the FGC website for $15. Here is a link.
Or you can contact Patricia to purchase a book from her in Somerville. She is in the directory and I have copied her in this email.
The Zoom link will be sent closer to the date, so watch for a reminder email and enjoy reading. Please join us! There is an email list for the group. If you are interested in being on it, let me know. For questions contact Cynthia Knowles at email@example.com
About Patricia’s book from the back cover– “Part memoir, part social history, [the book] tells the story of Lynda Woodruff and Owen Cardwell, Jr., the African American students who integrated Lynchburg’s public schools in 1962. … But the real subject of this compelling book is Wild’s unflinching exploration of her own with privilege.”
There is a segway from Wendy Sanford’s book in which she explores the layers of her relationship with Mary, an African American who was employed by her parents and with whom Wendy developed a relationship that allowed for some exploration of their shared and different relationships in the same house
Like Wendy, Patricia takes the risk of revisiting those years and building relationships with the two African Americans who integrated her high school in Lynchburg. Patricia will join us when we meet in July.
