For the last 15 years our Peace and Social Justice Committee has commemorated the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with a gathering at FMC with a public reading of Thomas Merton’s meditation “Original Child Bomb,” a period of personal sharing, and a procession to the Charles River to float candles or origami cranes. The year we’re doing something different. In an act of solidarity and community networking on the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, we are joining Greater Boston Physicians for Social Responsibility and Massachusetts Peace Action (MAPA) for a longer commemoration in Dewey Square, Boston on August 6th from noon to 7pm. As plans develop we will share info regarding our participation. More details and the schedule that day can be found here or by contacting John Bach at bolder@fmcquaker.org.
