Masking is now optional for all FMC events at 5 Longfellow Park—in the Meetinghouse and in the Friends Center. HEART (HEAlthy Reopening Team) strongly recommends that there be ventilation in these spaces in some form: through open windows on two different walls, use of the attic fan in the Friends Room, use of the air purifiers in the Parlor, or use of the air exchange system in the Meetinghouse.

  • For FMC weddings and memorials, at the request of the family, there can be a stricter masking requirements but this info must be shared with the community in advance.
  • Small FMC groups meetings (of under 25 people) and outside groups that rent our space can decide to have stricter masking requirements.
  • Small groups (of under 25 people), or FMC weddings and memorials (at the request of the family) can decide on stricter masking requirements, but for any public events should notify the community in advance.
  • High-quality masks and hand sanitizer are available in the entryway to the Meetinghouse and Friends Center.

HEART asks Friends that are comfortable wearing masks consider continuing to wear them to protect others in our community (who are themselves vulnerable or living with vulnerable individuals). Friends that do not feel comfortable being in mask-optional settings are encouraged to join by Zoom (off-site or from FMC in another room). Friends who feel somewhat uncomfortable sitting near someone who is unmasked may wish to ask that person to wear a mask or may wish to move and sit where they feel safer. During Sunday morning Meeting for Worship, a small “Masks Encouraged” area is designated with signs.

HEART, as always, reserves the right to tighten these rules without discernment of the Meeting and shift back to mask-required gatherings should the health situation suddenly deteriorate or if there is a public health emergency in Cambridge or Massachusetts more generally.
